Living Legends

I went with my OTHER sister in law "Brae" to Portland to see living legends. They are a cultural dance group and are pretty much awsome. We had a great time, other than the person behind us who obviously desperatly wanted to see them, but should have stayed home. *cough cough cough throughout the entire performance, accompanied by the aroma of cough drops and vick's vapor rub. Brae is now feeling like garbage. (the cougher is a likely suspect of this transfer of disease causing microbes)

Anyway, so we miraculously found parking that according to my GPS was about a block and a half from the performance center. SWEET! So we took it. we drove around and around and around and couldn't find a spot, so we went up. The nice man at the booth said they only had one floor, but there was more behind the elevator. Ok, we're thinking "why do you need an elevator for a one level parking garage?" But whatever! So, we found a spot, and figured out that the elevator was for non-car exit from the garage. Ummm ok.... So we had no idea where we were. It was a pretty luxurious lookin elevator for a parking garage but whatever right? It was then that we saw a digital screen in the elevator. "Welcome to the Hilton" OH! Ok, thankyou! I sure do feel welcome in your um er uh elevator from your parking.

So after being completely turned around and finally figuring out how to change my GPS from "automobile" to "pedestrian" we found our destination in no time flat. We felt like idiots spinning around in the middle of a sidewalk until our little man appeard to be following the pink "designated route"

After standing in the wrong line, transfering to the right one, getting our tickets, ($10! Very good price for the 2 hour phenomenal performance that it was) and sprinting up all the stairs to our upper balcony seating, we got to our seats 5 minutes before curtain. Not bad! Consitering we left about an hour later than we wanted to and ran other errands in Portland before we got to the center

So, I was already to take tons of cool pics to share with ya'll my 2 readers, but the announcement was made that absolutely no photography or recording of any kind. BUMMER! So, me being a law abiding citezen resorted to google images and youtube. Of course they don't have my absolute favs to show you, but its better than nothing! So, enjoy!

This was the finale. I wish this showed the whole stage. It was awsome because "families" from the different cultures appeared on stage as they all sent their young off into the world, and they all met together and had another tidbit tying the whole thing together.

Hmmm. we'll see if this works. This dance is always one of my favs! The local indian tribe of my "native land" is resoponsible for this, so there were tons of school assemblies featuring this dance. I never tire of seeing it. The hoop dance! Thank you random non law abiding citezen!Ok, it didn't work! I'll have to work on my video steeling skills. Anyway, it really is a super cool dance. If you want to watch a short and sweet version of it, google image "BYU Living legends". find the picture I have below, of the gathering of nations, and click on it (its one of the first couple on there, so you don't have to scroll down forever). it will take you to her blog, which she has a video of it. Or, you can always youtube search "hoop dance" I just found a lot of really long ones there and didn't want to post them.

and, thanks again to google images for the following picuteres! Wish I could find more!

This was the gathering of all the cultures after the "Go my son" finale

Sure was fun to watch all the pretty skirt patterns from the "upper balcony"

Thanks Brae for an awsome evening! And sorry you are feeling the effects of our coughing friend :(
